#6: Hiroshima

Hiroshima is beautiful!  I’m stoked to have the opportunity to spend time here for the next month or so.  The house is in a prime location right across from Itsukushima (popularly known as Miyajima) Island, and the view from the rooftop is incredible.  Yuri, Saki, Kana, Meri, and Ina – you all are awesome!  Thanks for the warm welcome!

I visited Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Park and Peace Memorial Museum the other day. For obvious reasons, it was sad to walk through this area and learn more about what Hiroshima went through after the atomic bomb dropped.  I’m constantly in awe of everything this city has to offer and it’s astonishing how well it has recovered.

Other quick notes/updates:

  • I’ve been silent for too long on this topic; why are 7-11 stores in Japan so nice?!?! They’ve got sushi, fried chicken, curry over rice, pork tonkatsu, etc.
  • Up to this point, Okonomiyaki (Hiroshima-style) is my favorite Japanese dish. Its prepared before serving but there’s a teppanyaki grill at your table so it stays hot and you can eat right off of it.
  • A haircut would be so cool dude, but I refuse to pay $45-$55 USD for one.
